Serbuk dibagi menjadi 2 yaitu pulvis dan pulveres. Menurut Farmakope Indonesia Edisi III serbuk adalah campuran homogen dari dua atau lebih obat yang diserbukkan.

Menurut Farmakope Indonesia IV, serbuk adalah campuran kering bahan obat atau zat kimia yang dihaluskan, ditujukan untuk pemakaian oral maupun topikal. secara kimia-fisika serbuk mempunyai ukuran antara 10.000- 0,1 mikrometer.
